Happy New Year from DTyler Photography!

Let me start out by wishing you all a happy, safe and wonderful New Year's celebration!

As I reflect on 2009, it's a year of surprises for everyone except me. As many of you already know, I was living in Minnesota for a short while and returned back to Las Vegas in late 2008. A 'little while' means two and a half years and I left behind my own highly successful commercial/fashion studio in Minneapolis. Returning to a fast moving, always transient town like Las Vegas was the equivalent of starting all over again from scratch and rebuilding brick by brick. Frankly, I couldn't hack the winters.

I was born in the midwest, but was never bred for it. Six months out of the year, my world literally stopped and while I love studio photography, I loved the advertising shoots (many of which can be seen in magazines today) and I loved working with musicians in Minneapolis, the town itself moved at a different pace than me and I found myself missing the variety of people I encountered in Las Vegas and California.

Shooting a wedding in Las Vegas or Orange County or San Francisco is a vastly different experience than shooting a midwest wedding - instead of a solemn, traditional event, when people travel west, they know that they're here to have fun. The sheer variety of people we meet from all across the world keeps us enjoying what we do and looking forward to the next shoot!

When I mentioned that I was returning to Las Vegas, I heard everything from "economy" to "recession" to "you must be crazy" and it seemed that everyone was preparing for my early retirement. However, I stand here a year later and say proudly that we have enjoyed the most successful year of my near thirteen year long career. In 2009, DTyler Photography booked an amazing 154 wedding photography sessions, which is a dead on tie for our previous record set in 2000, during which time we were the in house photography firm for a popular ceremony/reception hall in Wisconsin and had a built in clientele. Many of these were shorter sessions and it wasn't unheard of for use to shoot three wedding sessions in a day, which we had an absolutely blast with!

I'm looking forward to 2010 in a way that I have for no other year and enter the new year with a positive outlook and my trademark open faced smile. Currently, we have 30 wedding photography sessions reserved for 2010 and 8 for 2011 and so the year is starting out on the right foot and for our future clients that may be reading this post, my excitement for your wedding matches your excitement and I look forward to working with each and every one of you!

I'd like to take a moment and thank you all from the bottom of my heart for your patronage, your friendship and your support and will keep you in my thoughts until we meet again!

To quote the immortal Stanley Martin Lieber: "Excelsior!"
